The European Parliament from 1979 to 2014
This work shows the European Parliament’s first eight legislative periods, on the day of each European election.
Each stitch corresponds to one seat, each colour to one political group. The arrangement of the legislative periods is chronological; the arrangement of the groups within each legislative period corresponds to the seating order in the Parliament.
EU citizens were asked to put on the resulting scarf and to take a selfie of themselves or a portrait of each other. They were completely free regarding the design of the portrait; the only condition was that both the person and the scarf are visible in the picture.
The project was realised during the eighth legislative period of the European Parliament and ran until that period ended. When the ninth legislative period commenced on 2nd July 2019, the scarf was not up to date anymore, so the project came to an end.
As different as the people and their home countries are, they are nevertheless connected to one another by one common aspect: They all are citizens of the European Union.
